The Department of Housing and Community Development provides financing for the development and preservation of affordable rental housing in priority funding areas. Sponsors of affordable rental housing developments, both non-profit and for-profit, can access a variety of financing tools to meet the specific needs of their project. Funding through the Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit and Rental Housing Programs are awarded through competitions held once or twice annually. Other programs accept applications throughout the year and award funding based on readiness to proceed.
